Wolfgang Vollrath

"Dr. Wolfgang Vollrath was born 1949 in Bad Neuenahr, Germany. He studied physics at the Physics Institute of the University of Bonn. Thesis and PhD (1979) included both somewhat experimental subjects to high energy physics at 2.5 GeV Elektronensynchroton in Bonn. Immediately after graduation he joined Ernst Leitz GmbH in the Department of Optical Metrology Division of the photo company. In 1981 he became head of the optical computing offices and 1985 beyond the line of Corporate Development optics. After several reorganizations and changing responsibilities in the development of optics, he joined in 1994 in the microelectronics division and took over a year later, the development of product line with the optical measurement and inspection systems for the semiconductor industry. From 1998 he was Chief Scientist and Head of the optical evolution of the business and since 2001 also Chief Scientist of Optics Leica Microsystems AG.

In September 2005, Dr. Vollrath the same position at Vistec Semiconductor Systems GmbH, the former became independent under the name microelectronics division of Leica Microsystems. unchanged in the same way his responsibilities in today's KLA-Tencor MIE GmbH remained after the acquisition of Vistec Semiconductor Systems GmbH by KLA-Tencor late 2008.

Since 1980 Dr. Vollrath has been a member of the DGaO and in 1994 was elected to the board,and has been Treasurer since 1998. In 2001 he was appointed as a representative of the DGaO in the program committee of the Optical Technologies "of the BMBF, in which he worked until 2007."
