=My work involves scanning old Buddhist religious manuscripts written on palm leaves and recording the high-resolution scanned images onto DVDs. For the past several years I have been using a rather antiquated PC hooked up to a Leica scanning camera, the S1 Pro, but the computer was failing, and needed to be replaced.

At my suggestion the organization that I work for purchased a new Macintosh Mac Pro desktop computer. I had not realized that there would be a problem connecting the Leica scanner to the new computer. A double-pronged optical line was used to attach the scanner to the PC computer, but the Macintosh does not support a line of this type, but requires a line with a single jack.

I know that much, or even most, imaging work is done with Macs, and that Leica cameras and scanners are also preferred. There must be a PCI card or other device that will allow me to get the setup up and running, but no one here in Bangkok is able to help me.

Can you please let me know if there is an adaptor or card of any type that will allow me to use the S1 Pro with a Power Mac?

Why not share your Leica knowledge and add to our knowledge base. If something on this site does not ring true please correct the error. It's easy and appreciated:

  • Log in requires username / password - (Forum Members are not automatically logged in, however, you may use the same information)
  • Select the Edit tab
  • Edit using similar formating to existing - *[bullet indent] **[bullet double indent] [bold] etc.
    • See bottom of the Main page for more elaborate editing information.
  • If after 'minor edit save' your edit is not quite right do it again until it looks right to you.
