The Leitz OZTNO/14088 release adaptor allows the use of attachments designed for screw mount cameras to be used with M cameras. Such as the example below, shown an early delayed action timer (self timer) model APDOO/14003 attached to a Leica M Camera via an OZTNO adaptor. The APDOO self timer can be adjusted deliberately to let the time elapsed before the shutter is released in the range of 8 to 12 seconds as you wish.

The APDOO self timer can be adjusted deliberately to allow the waiting time before the shutter is released in the range of 8 to 12 seconds as you wish.

The seldom found Leitz OZTNO adaptor (many version of engraved scripts available) is designed to be used with the cable release for screw mount cameras and the often found APDOO delayed action timer is originally used on screw mount cameras that haven’t equipped with built-in self timer. These two things happened to fit each other perfectly and can be used together on a Leica M camera without built-in self timer (eg. M4-P, M6, M6 TTL, M7, MP...etc).

Note: Some Leica M users try very hard to find the OZTNO adaptors on eBay but are often disappointed unexpectedly to realize that the combinations of APDOO/OZTNO they have bought do not seem to function well on their M cameras (especially the later models like MP) and think the problem might be that perhaps the camera’s shutter release is far recessed. But I think the problem might be on the OZTNO adaptor itself, not APDOO or camera. After trying a few OZTNO adaptors on each of my M camera (M4-P, M6 TTL, M7, MP, MP 3 LHSA) carefully I finally realize that some OZTNO adaptors simply cannot not be screwed deeply enough to release the camera’s shutter due to their original design or mechanical tolerance. Although I have no idea about how to adjust the OZTNO adaptor properly in order to make it screwed deeply enough into the shutter release, I just use an easier method to get around the adjustment problem but can still make it to release the shutter. This is illustrated below and it seems to function quite well. Hope this illustration would be helpful to those who found their APDOO/OZTNO combinations couldn’t work successfully on their M cameras.
